Working on Graphic Design

I don't know if I mentioned this before, I'm working on my Graphic Design minor at the University. At the moment, I'm still at beginners classes, but there is lots to learn! This semester, I'm taking the two basic graphic design classes. Graphic Design 1 is basically teaching us how to use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop  how to do vector graphics etc. I've already done the basic assignments, they are not so bad. At the moment, I'm practicing on creating logos by creating vector graphics. So I decided to make my mom a cake logo for her cake decorating title.

First thing first, do a sketch! It's something that I learned in all my art classes, always start with a thumbnail sketch of what I want to create! I talked to my mom, and I asked her how she wanted it, colors, etc. So the sketch its just rough, nothing fancy, just scribbles here and there.

Thee Sketch! A topsy turvy cake with these crazy flowers and roses, and more decoration, etc!

So I scanned the sketch, uploaded it, and put it in illustrator. Now I will use the learned lessons from my class to create this cake! And BAM! This is what I got so far!

Took me about 5-6 hours to do this!

My mom's opinion? She loves it! I guess I could say that my mom is my first client! Yay! But I still have lots more to learn, and I'm eager to know what's next in my class's schedule!

The second Graphic Design class is the all-traditional graphic design. Meaning, we won't be using a computer to create a design, everything will go traditional! I haven't done an official design in this class yet, but when I do, I'll post them up here!

  1. Great artworks! I hope you keep up the good work and keep on developing your skills as a designer. You have a bright future ahead of you, Genoveva. I suggest giving time for research and reading on how great artists -- such as Picasso, Andy Warhol, and a lot more -- got inspired to their work and create your own style from there. Ciao! :)
